On August 20, 2018, Franceli Chapman-Varela gathered with seven women for a bible study for women in Hollywood. For the first year, the bible study did not have a name. In honor of the second year anniversary of the bible study, the holy spirit led Franceli Chapman to take the women on a retreat to the Sequoia National Forest. While in the wilderness, they praised, worshiped and prayed. While praying under the beautiful majestic trees the group stumbled upon the “Tough Twins” One of the founding members suggested the name Sequoia Sisters, and so under the twin trees our name was born.
The description under the placard for these set of twins really embodied who we were as a ministry:
Expansion Began
One of Franceli’s family members asked her if there was a way to bring the Sequoia Sisters Bible study/ministry to Tampa Florida in 2023 and after some prayer and fasting the team decided to launch a chapter in 2024.
On February 12, 2024 Sequoia Sisters kicked off their second chapter in Tampa Florida.
Incorporation
On August 26, 2025 Sequoia Sisters Ministries became a 501c3.
